HUGE THANKS TO ALLEN FOR YOUR TIME AND EFFORTS IN PROVIDING THESE EXCELLENT DTRW CONCERTS THREADS :clap :wave

With that "historical moment", it would be great if that "pretty long speech" with his Goodbye would be videoed by some Amiters, as long as he provides it.

I would like him to get a standing ovation at that moment. It would be a nice gesture to thank him for all the years.

Do we have live setlist tonight? ;)

Do we have live setlist tonight? ;)
enough members there. so i guess yes. Jbaent?
-
Excited to see if they will be any changes already tonight... What do you think of shifting between FaS/HFB and SHE/YLT like yesterday?
Would like BIA included as well...
Also, with the brass, I Used To Could would fit nice, but maybe they are tired of that one....

How about TYL with all that Brass??
-
Have a nice one!
-
Just came to my mind.. I expected WII yesterday, hopefully it will feature from time to time...
Also, how about Got To Have Something? Really like this song, should be suitable for trumpet/sax I think...
Probably won't be played.
Exciting as said to see the second setlist, either nearly the same or some more shuffling...

My guess is that it is the same, they probably want to get a grip on this list first. But that's just guesswork of course.

I see they are economising by using the same cover on Ianto's drums as on the Tracker tour, minus the decals. ;D

Fantastic that you are doing that - thankyou...

good, so a surprise is coming i guess

Just as lame an opener as broken bones. Thats tragic
-
Think this is the first time ever he's changed the opener during the tour.
-
Think this is the first time ever he's changed the opener during the tour.
I'd agree with you....

Why keep CBC if you have a song like Why Aye Man :hmm it's one of his bests

Why keep CBC if you have a song like Why Aye Man :hmm it's one of his bests
CBC makes the set work, however it isn't my favourite either. :thumbsdown
-
Think this is the first time ever he's changed the opener during the tour.
He did alternate between opening with ‘Why Aye Man’ and ‘What it is’ on the European tour with Dylan.

Not a fave of mine either but it works on stage.....

I still think "What it is" should be the opener. Or "Tunnel of love" ;D
-
Let's hope Why aye man is the opener more than NDD :-\

good, so a surprise is coming i guess
Or just a shorter set..

True, it works in concert, but nevertheless if you rehearsed why aye man you should not drop it in my opinion :smack

4. Once upon a time in the west

I'd agree with you....
If you count the 2011 Dylan tour as a full tour, he did it with WAM and WII back then.

My fingers are crossed! Surely they rehearsed this. I guess Dancefloor was also done or Guy wouldn't have said what he did.

Mk is having issues with the cold wind at the bullring, shaking his hands and trying to warm them with his breath

Think this is the first time ever he's changed the opener during the tour.
He did alternate between opening with ‘Why Aye Man’ and ‘What it is’ on the European tour with Dylan.
Indeed WAM was played on 10 dates and WII was played on 23 dates of the 2011 Dylan/Knopfler European Tour

I don't count that as it wasn't a Knopfler or DS tour, but mainly because I forgot about it. ;)

Hope not. I've never really enjoyed that one live since the BIA tour. It's either too slow or wrong guitar or other instruments. Of course the odd special performance here and there but nothing has beat the BIA versions.

I was thinking the same, very sad to take WAM out, and yeah Nobody does that is just a boring opener I think... but lets wait until the next shows and see wait happends, they are also trying out I guess :)
-

But if he is struggling with the cold there then omitting WAM may be a good call.....
I'm afraid I can't comment about NDT as an opener as I havent heard it Live yet, but sorry I don't find any of MK's music 'boring'

Yes - Broken Bones was my least favourite Tracker song....and opened the show I saw. Nobody Does That is one of my least favourite songs on the new album - and he is opening with it! When you think of all the songs to choose from on the new album - really hope we get to hear some of them which sounded ideal for the live show - Trapper, One Song, Just a Boy, Heavy Up et al.
-

Very true, would ofcourse also makes sense if that would be the reason, lets hope so ;)

I think it is possible that we already know the set list for this tour. It's fixed and will be played until the last show in this form. I don't expect any more surprises.

Interesting to see if he introduces the band tonight. Maybe he's learned their names by now!
-
So, let's not hope WAM is skipped as opener from now on, NDT* (sorry for NDD previously ;) ) just is not right as opener.
I mean, come on, they should know that WAM, WII, and several songs are much better openers...
Seems indeed that MK has a strange pick of songs sometimes... if we don't hear OSAAT tonight we should start to get worried for it to exist in tour at all.... :hmm

BOTDF to open - Pleeeeeeeeeeeease!!
-
Well, I think it's more than just pick. It seems it has to do with being capable of playing stuff or not. Maybe he felt uncomfortable yesterday. Also the songs are chosen to feature every band member each (Money For Nothing f.e.is purely a Guy spotlight song). The first song has to feature the new members especially so it has to be a brass song obviously.

Mark has traditionally chosen strange, well let's just say poor, new songs to play when promoting an album on recent tours. They have always been a disappointment and it's always been a case of what might have been. With this being the last world tour there isn't really a 2nd chance for these new tunes.

Yeah I understand that.. I think this is partly negative, having too many musicians on the stage and everyone needing their space, moments etc.. the brass sounds good no doubt about that, but I would rather prefer some better songs in the setlist... I'd take WAM as opener every day before NDT, the sax/trumpet parts sounded really good...
We'll see on Sunday for the third time what will happen in terms of opener :thumbsup

OES should not be a regular. I never understood the fascination with that song.
-
Indeed, it seems pretty much fixed but this is only concert number two. I think they want to get it right and with a big band and a lot of new songs there are a lot of little things to iron out before they start to change the set.

I don't think they'd have thought up a whole new arrangement for WAM only to drop it after one show. It'll make a comeback.

Metroland was the intro of Matchstick Man
You are right, thank you very much. It's late!

Mighty WAM, the great opener, dropped at 2nd gig, to start with NDT ? Is that a joke ? I thought nobody would do that - not even Mark...
If this is confirmed that it is dropped from now on, then it was a miracle that I heard WAM live once in my life. I missed 2005 and 2008 tours, and never got a chance to hear it in 2010 and 2011. And I was not scheduled for Barcelona, made the decision 4 days before !!
-
I´d say he´ll finish all the gigs with Going Home. No BIA expected :(
-
Your Latest Trick with She's Gone ?
yes
:thumbsup Thanks:)
Was it really She's Gone yesterday? Somehow I remember Metroland... Maybe I mix it up totally...
LE
Yes, there was nothing from the Metroland song. I read that also on Guy's forum but i don't understand where it comes from. It was She's gone, same as last tour.
-
Very happy to see Piper back. Heard GH for many years now and although an anthem Piper is a beautiful song played too little. The modern day BIA.
2nd thoughts. I suspect sax was in Piper to spoil it as it did latterly last tour.
-
Have you ever noticed that if WAM is coming back and Piper To The End stay, except Dire Straits First Album and Tracker, all albums (DS or MK Solo) are covered !
Why Aye Man - The Ragpicker's Dream
Nobody does that - Down The Road
Corned beef city - Privateering
Sailing to philadephia - Sailing to Philadelphia
Once upon a time in the west - Communiqué
Romeo and Juliet - Making Movies
Bacon roll - Down The Road
Matchstick Man - Down The Road
Done With Bonaparte - Golden Heart
Heart Full of Holes - Kill To Get Crimson
Your Latest Trick - Brothers In Arms
Silvertown Blues - Sailing to Philadelphia
Postcards from Paraguay - Shangri-La
On Every Street - On Every Street
Speedway at Nazareth - Sailing to Philadelphia
Telegraph Road - Love Over Gold
Money for Nothing - Brothers In Arms
Piper to The End - Get Lucky

It was in 2010 but since Ianto is on board they did not nail it anymore.

I require WAM on Sunday as opener or I really start to lose hope that it will feature upcoming setlists...
So, soon we can confirm the complete disappearing of HFB/BIA, sadly, replace NDT with one of these... and OSAAT ??!! Best song of the album left out???
I said this earlier, downside of having too many musicians on stage who need their space and moments, and for each album it's harder to squeeze in all songs in the same size setlist...
Or is it mainly MK's struggling to play fast that's the reason?
If not BIA/OSAAT will feature at all, big disappointment. :thumbsdown

Come on, its just show 2 and the set is so fresh and awesome. I don't understand the complaining at all.

No, it wasn't ??? At least, i don't hear it. It's the melody of Matchstick Man/Heart of Oak
I can clearly hear the Metroland theme for a few seconds before the Matchstick Man stars. I first thought he would sing « yearning we were yearning.... »

If it was the case, then Corn Beef City was a much better candidate to be dropped than the opener !

Me too. No doubt. It was a downer NOT to get the complete song. Although Matchstick Man was great of course. Both would have been perfect.

Listened again, and compared to Metroland, and i really can't hear it. The trumpets sounds the same, true... But the melody is different.

well they sound the same because those few notes are exactly the same melody basically, especially played with the trumpets,
just like for example Long Cool Girl is a 'different' song from R&J but the melody is the same, it's like a spin-off

In the end, after all this years, finally MK played in "my town". He didn't played there since 1983 and it was such a pleasure to see him playing in the bullring that I walked by so many times...
Bad that he did it in his last tour, but just on time!

A lot!!!!!!
This is just a genius mix of old and new with two unexpected songs that made me scream so loud my throat still hurts!!!!
Only bad part is that he is not playing the best songs of the last record but, he's still Mark Knopfler, lol, that was expected!

That is the one disappointment, isn't it. This is normal though for our Mark. I would gladly swap Speedway for OSAAT and think it would work.

Never a fan of Vesta Man, however I'm finding this arrangement very lovely indeed.

That was a lovely performance of Matchstick Man. I get the feeling Mark is happier playing songs like that more than the full blown Sultans of Swing type songs.
