Title: Reunion at the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame?
Post by: border_reiver on March 13, 2018, 06:26:53 PM
Since the thread about a reunion or not has spun out of control I am interested in seeing to where general opinion is leaning.

Editors may delete if unnecessary.  :wave

For me, the new MK album is more important than RHOF:)

I don't believe that a sentence can stand this!

I need the option "It depends"

Yes - because that would be awesome

No - I can see a few reasons why I wouldn't want to perform if I was Mark: for example if I'm not in line with the "philosophy" of the event. Like, if I decided that any future reunion must only be about non-profit causes, then performing would be the last thing I want to do.

That said, I chose yes because I don't know whatever is in Mark's mind  ;D

I'll swap no RRHOF for a special edition of On The Night with the missing songs, realistic ?

Live8 is far more better choice for a reunion. I remember watching this show as a kid and it literally blew my head up. I was a huge fan of PF.
I'm surprised the poll gets 50/50 results, it's because there's too many newcomers here or what? Do you really expect Mark to do that? :o

On The Night in HD with 5.1 sound would be the greatest live album ever recorded even without all the songs. But... see the comment above.

People are confusing things...

Rorhf wasn't about Ds coming back and mk letting his solo career apart.

It was just one off and then come back to mk solo career.

A one off.

ONE.

And that's all.

No. Here in Russia we have a sarcastic saying that goes like "Один раз — не *******", which basically means "One time does not make you a homo***ual". It's being used when you make something very bad, but for "just one time". If he would resurrect DS it would start off an enormous amount of controversy, requests, chances for an album, speculating, etc, especially after "one off" performance on on an event like HOF which is not a huge charity event like Live8 or LiveAid. Which means more fame based around DS, which is what Mark doesn't want obviously. From every perspective, marketing-wise, fan-wise, whoever-wise resurrecting DS is a bad decision and by any means never cheapens their LEGACY, please excuse the term.

Robert Plant has stick loyal to "led zeppelin" will never come back and he still does even getting billionaire offers.

Even that, he agreed to some one offs that made happy their fans and then come back to his successful solo career and still refusing any Zeppelin come back.

Hats off to Plant

LoL. Good ol homophobic Russia.

It wouldn't start a thing if you are good at communicating.

If they were excellent at this they would say something like... "We are doing this one song. It will be the very last song ever you will hear being played live by Dire Straits. We are doing this for our beloved fans. But after this we are done. Not even for charity purposes. We ask you to respect this decision and further questions are unwanted. Thank you."

They are getting offers to resurrect DS from time to time anyway, even they didn't any one off never, so nothing will really change...

But if Mark does not want additional publicity, spotlights and thousands of cameras, then I understand and respect him. Mark has his world ...

So "video presentation" it is then. I've got an idea. Perhaps Mark should face an empty hall at some point. Nobody shows up. Instead they just erect this huge video wall facing the stage and just in front of the stage and then project a recording of a full venue of some past concert (his or somebody else's). Perhaps the one from OES tour with stadiums full of people. I'm sure he'd appreciate it a lot!  ;D

As Guy said, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out. Mark's not on speaking terms with David and Alan, that's that simple. Hence he won't be promoting a brand that's being malevolently used by one of them.

I bet Mark agreed to perform but only in case Alan put DSL to rest. Alan on the other hand sees the induction as an opportunity to boost his business. David is probably wandering somewhere in the middle trying to figure it out - and Guy is drinking tea and agreeing with Mark. Pick doesn't seem to care at all.

Anyway, Dire Straits is probably the most underrated band of all time and Mark does a great job keeping it that way.

Yes, like if wasn't because of that band he wouldn't enjoy the freedom of do whatever he wants no wonder if it sells well, good or bad...

Not only him but also his kids, grandkids and generations to come.
