Hi all!
Even if I am quite everyday here, I do not really write much, I prefer to read...
Anyway, this time I'm making an exception :)
As many of you already know I have started to upload on YouTube my DS and MK covers played on Piano.
It is a different way of listening the songs that everyone knows, as I also play guitar solos on the Piano. I have made arrangements and Piano transcription by myself and for those who need help there is the link in each video to download the scores of what I play.
Here is the video list (I do not embed them all or this post will be huge, but if you want I will edit it):
1) Tunnel Of Love
c1nFavgSYZU
2) Telegraph Road
bc18RbZ0beM
3) Going Home
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6UfnNJXHpU
4) Love Over Gold
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfNfIkhlyek
5) Hand In Hand
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Izoe1GCDKE8
6) You And Your Friend
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BE6x6mHw0a8
7) Why Worry

8 ) Your Latest Trick

9) A Love Idea

And the last one uploaded few days ago:
10) Private Investigations

Comments are welcome. Pianists who need help just need to ask.

I've watched these videos and listened several times to the songs. Satin Beaus is a beautiful arranger and pianist. You'll really be pleased with what he can do. His interpretations give a whole different beauty to MK's music. :D
Sorry, G, I forgot to answer your email about the name. . . . . :-X
-
Beautifully played. Do you happen to have R & J ? Just love to hear it play on the piano.
-
you are really good my friend ! I have to forward your email to my dad ( oops i forgot) he loves your playing
-
Satinbeaus Thank you for sharing these videos!
I LOVED to listen and watch, it was great! ;)

First of all thanks for your comments, I am also glad to see that in this thread the male to female ratio is 1 to 4 :D
Sorry, G, I forgot to answer your email about the name
No worries Marie ;)
Do you happen to have R & J ? Just love to hear it play on the piano.
Beautiful and easy to play, at the moment I'm working on songs of the first two albums (I haven't recorded any at the moment) R&J will follow. I will write in this thread the updates...
I have to forward your email to my dad
Hmm, the man with you in your avatar photo? :)
Cheers

satinbeaus, Make it 5:1 or even 1:5, they are really beautifully played! :D
PS My husband thinks you are absolutely magic, but you make him depressed, because he will never ever reach your standard of playing! :(
-
Look out Fletch is all i can say! :)
A great little pinkie you have too Satin. Used to some good effect.
Do you do commissions? (preferably at very good rates to fellow Knopflerites) I write songs and have some great melodies and progressions but am absolutely useless at arrangements and to me they are the makings of a song. Unless of course one is happy to play and sound forever like Dylan of the 60s for example :)
A good arrangement can be the difference between a song/album going platinum or not achieving a single sale.
-
Ooops Val, you are right, the ratio was 1 to 4, I have edited the post sorry ;)
Your husband can download the PDFs that I have made and eventually simplify them. Some songs as "A Love Idea", "Why Worry" or "Hand in Hand" and even the first part of "Tunnel of Love" are not really complicate.
Simon, everything for free here (unless you ask me to help you transcribing a Piano Concerto!), don't hesitate to ask.
Cheers

How beautiful that song sounds on piano. No chimpanzees here; just talent. I will listen again and again. Had a wonderful dream about Mark and the band last night..the piano piece just brought it all back. Onward to 2010!

Satinbeaus -- your playing and the arrangements are fantastic. Thank you for sharing the music. I got a piano keyboard for Christmas and I've been struggling to play. I took lessons for several years when I was young, and I thought it would come back to me, but I am having a hard time with the pieces I'm trying to play. MK's music inspires me and will motivate me to practice, but I'm sure your arrangements will be too complex for me. I will try to simplify them. Your beautiful playing has inspired me so I'll keep plugging away. If you happen to have any simple arrangements that you could post, it would be much appreciated. Or perhaps you know of a website I might look into to download music. Thanks again, Joan

beautiful!

@ joanzimm
I try to make all by myself, sometimes I check what other play but I try to mix bass, guitar, piano etc. with my 2 hands, so the final record is something different from a standard piano play. This is the reason why sometimes it seems to be complex. Anyway the PDFs I have made come from a Finale Music file, that I have written note by note.
That means that if you want a simplified version just tell me where, or which bars I have to simplify; I just need to make click and click and the notes are gone from the staff.
In some files there are also empty bars especially when I improvise something, for example in "Your Latest Trick" I haven't written all the melody as it can be played by ear and/or improvised. Sometimes I have just written raw notes for the solo ("Tunnel of Love"), just as short sentences on a block note to be used for practising.
Anyway I am here if you need help.
Cheers

Absolutely fantastic satinbeaus ,I could sit down & listen to that all night.
When we were young my dad had a piano in the house - God knows where he got it as neither my mom or dad have a note between them - but I remember we used to try & play the music from the coca cola advert on the tv ::) ::)I 'd like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony ..................................... we never quiet mastered it though :-[ :-[
-
Very good "job" Satinbeaus.
-
Thank you, Satinbeaus, for answering my post. I have just printed all the PDFs and will attempt to play one of the pieces -- whichever one looks easiest! None of them will be easy for me but when I get frustrated, I'll listen to your playing, and that will motivate me to keep practicing. Practice makes perfect, as they say ::) Thank you again for sharing your music scores and the videos.

Hi,
I just want to let you know how much I appreciate your beautiful music. I converted your videos into MP3 and have now dedicated a folder in my MK collection for your MK covers. I've been playing them for the past many days several times a day along with MK of course. The music is so soothing, relaxing and inspiring. My 11 year old will attempt all the pieces I printed on PDF during the spring break next week and I shall let you know. Heck, I am so inspired to even want to try my hands on TOL. We hope you will have more for us to enjoy. Thanks so very very much. :)

Hi!
I have been very busy last time but finally found the time to record another video.
It is not exactly like the original, there are some changes to avoid too much repetitions....
This cover can be used as backing track to sing along or to play the lead guitar. As always I have made a piano transcription (downloadable for free) for the pianists who want to play the song. Comments are welcome.

Absolutely amazing stuff Satin - keep it up - and only rest when every single MK song has been arranged! :-)
They will be great for singing along to in the car that's for sure!
-
As always another beautiful piece !! You're absolutely awesome !! Can never have enough . Thanks a lot.
-
Thank you so much, Gaetano. I hope that someday MK will hear and appreciate your music.
-
Hallo everybody,
it's a long time since I posted here last time, but an incredible series of things has happened in my already chaotic life...
Well this is my last work, not the best version I could do but not that bad anyway...
Hope you enjoy it.
For Musicians and Pianists: I will make a score transcription as soon as possible, please be patient :)

I wish you all a wonderful weekend!

Very nice! :D
-
Every time you put something new out, it's a great occasion for your fans. Thanks.
-
Great indeed. TOL is superb!!
SOS is good too, but the "twiddly bits" are kinda strange to me, I mean not the way you play it, but the tones. I don't want to criticize or anything or maybe my hearing failed me, but isn't there a change in original solo when the chords change from Dminor to #A? (roughly F, D, A, D to F, D,#A, D) Just curious, hope I am not being too rude... :)
-
Thank you all for the nice comments :)
@BoboDS,
this is a piano cover, not a piano copy ;)
By the way I never play F or A, quite the whole final live solo is based on Dm - Bb - C
F and A are played only in the verses... :)
Anyway, as always I use to made some changes to make a special pianistic arrangement, so instead of:
Dm (4/4) - Bb (4/4) - C (8/4) x 2
I play
Dm (4/4) - Gm (4/4) - C (4/4) - Am (4/4)
Dm (4/4) - Bb (4/4) - C (8/4)
Hope this is helpful.
Cheers,
Satin Beaus

Yeah I know it's cover, sorry. :-X :)
We kinda don't understand each other.
I know that the f and a CHORDS are played during the verses. But I meant the specific TONES in the "twiddly bits" (da feymoos solo) you know, when the chords change from Dm to Bb, solo guitar changes from playing (roughly speaking) F, D, A, D tones to F, D,#A, D tones. [and finally (C chord) C E G E tones].
-
OK now I understand what you mean... :)
Well you know that music has its rules...one basic harmonic rule is that sequence octaves should be avoided.
At that specific point my left hand plays the octave Bb (do not call it A#, it's not the same and it's wrong). If I play Bb with the right hand too, I create a chord made up of 3 Bb, this is horrible, sounds bad and must be absolutely avoided (if you do this in the music academy, they send you home immediately...).
Using different instruments such problems quite do not exist, this is what I mean when I say that this is a piano arrangement and not a copy. It must fit the instrument and add something to the original.
Cheers,
Satin Beaus
P.S.: For further information I think it's better if you send a PM, I guess it could be boring to keep always this topic up, it interests only the few...
-
Thank you sooooo much. It's been a long time since you have something new on Youtube. I love all your Mark's cover. I play them regularly at my house. It's just so nice to hear them.
-
Satin,
Will you please post here when you have the music notes up ? This part of the piano solo original and your cover is my most favorite/most beautiful piece of music I've ever heard in my life. Really. I absolutely love it.
Thanks so much. !
-
Very nice indeed. I also converted them to MP3, and if you made a CD, I would definately buy it... :-* :)

It's a pleasure for us too, Satinbeaus. Lovely to hear your interpretations. :)

Hi!
As requested I have uploaded my piano transcription of Sultans of Swing, the link is in the video description. It took a lot but it was a hard job (6 pages!). Hope it will help you to learn and play it :)
I'll fly to Italy next week but I'll be back in September and I am already working on another DS cover. You will hear from me soon.
Meanwhile all the best to everybody.
Cheers,
Satin Beaus
-
Every time I listen to "Remembrance Day" I want to hear your piano interpretation of that one. It almost was made for your touch.
-
Really really awesome :D
Brilliant work ...
-
Thank youuuuuu !! I've been waiting for it patiently. Have you considered making a cd of all MK/DS piano cover ? I'll buy it without hesitation.
-
I absolutely love it. They`re all on my iPod!
-
More then one year since my last Dire Straits' Cover!
In the meantime I changed job and home (again!) but this time definitely, I bought it!
Here two new works:
News

Ride Across the River (I know the original song has so many sounds that it is impossible
to make a piano cover similar to the original. This it is just an attempt. If you sing along maybe
it sounds better, because sometimes is too "empty")

Amazing job as Always and nice gear !! I love the sound !
My father uses your videos to learn some of the songs !!
BRAVOO !!
-
Long time since my last Dire Straits video...here another brand new one.
I played everything from start to end, including the solos. Everything adapted for the piano and for this reason not always exactly the same as the original, of course!
Hope you enjoy! Transcription coming soon...

It has indeed been a long while. I'm so glad you put up yet another piece of beautiful sound. :clap I will convert and add to my collection. Will you consider making the cd for all MK piano cover, please? I used to play your piano cover every morning while making breakfast. Guess I have to bring it out to listen again. I'm a big admirer of your piano playing. Thanks so much again.
-
BTW : Is there a chance to hear "where Do You Think You're Going?"
-
I think I can easily make a CD for you. I will think about the way to arrange this.
I could send it to you per post or prepare some share download via dropbox or similar...
There are still a lot of songs to cover, let's see which one the next one is :-)

That's right. There are so many songs from MK/DS to cover. About the cd, I meant you can sell them on your site. I bet there are so many people who appreciate your piano talent. I'll be gladly pay you for the cd plus shipping and such. I'd like a good sound quality from an actual cd rather than a dropbox download. Your playing is so beautiful, it has to be listened on a high standard.
Thanks again. :)
-
Very nice and moving work! Thanks for sharing it with us.
May you allow me to burn a cd with a selection of your work, for me and my wife's personal listening, not anything else?
-
really great !
maybe would I have played the solos an octave higher...?..not sure...
ahhh...Dm.... seems to be Mark's favorite key, and has given most of his best songs : sultans, TR, tunnel, Romeo(F/dm), and many others...
how did film your playing ? with several cameras at the same time ?
Or have you mimed your playing several times, and then you edit it ?
-
I absolutely adore your playing... Keep them coming :)
-
Thanks to all for the nice comments.
Here some answers :-)
@Sweetsurrender
I used to share everything for free, but I found people selling (selling!) my free transcriptions, so I decided to put a symbolic price for the download. So I hope that who wants only to make business with them, taking all for free and selling for real money, should look elsewhere. Back to the cd, I can upload wave or flac files and send you the link.
@nababo
Sure you can, the videos with music are public on youtube :-)
I can also send you a download link as for Sweetsurrender, I must just check where I can upload the files.
@JF
I do not have so many camcorders ;-) So I play and record it separately (audio -> line in to mac, video -> camcorder). When ready, I start the audio record and play it again on the piano, recording the video from another view (playback record). Made it 3-4 times and then mixed it.

Oh, thank you. Not necessary to post anywhere else. I can download them from youtube and convert to .flac. Thanks again for the beauty of your work and for the kind answer.
-
Thank you sooo much for your kind offer. :) Please keep coming with more MK/DS cover. They are precious to me.
