blind willie. my favourite ever BD song (i want you a close second. then series of dreams)
anyways, i will NEVER ever forget those first notes back in whenever it was in Oberhausen when bob starts the song, and mark joins, the FIRST time ever these two legends played this song live, and i was there, row two....omg...
and yes, this electrical version is amazing.
i always had the goal of collecting ALL of BD's performances of this song, first performed live in 1997 in montreal, august fifth...performed more then 214 times since. am close to all of them....

You have to be BD to record such stuff and leave it unreleased.
But according to GF, Mark did the same a few albums ago...

on the electric version of Blind willie MLctell, the slide lead guitar is NOT Mark, it's obviously Mick Taylor.
Mark is playing acoustic guitar on the acoustic version
Mick Talyor has covered the song later solo

Right, the slide guitar is Mick Taylor .. and I don't hear any other guitar at all on this version (??? do you? )
Mark produced it but seems not to appear as guitar player on this song. So I'd disagree with "here is the best performance Mark Knopfler has ever been a part of IMHO" :disbelief

that piano alone, already does it fr me, the acoustic, imagine being in that room, with two giants, one still little at that point in time...
gets to me everytime...

I too prefer the Dylan version (electric one), but I like how Mick Taylor embed the Layla riff into along the watchtower, before coming back to the song.
Mick Taylor is very underrated musician. he is so great imho. his playing is in the same league as Clapton/page etc... but unfortunately, he didn't have success in his career.
his first solo album from 79 is a pure gem, and of course his contribution with the Stones made their best era
