I'm new to the forum.
I tried doing a search, but to no avail.
Please tell me what this beautiful song makes reference to...in other words the meaning of it.
Thank you.

In Mark's own words here:

But basically it's about an obsessive German autograph hunter who hangs around MK's gigs waiting to get his autograph, and it's based on a true story.
Welcome to the forum!

Thanks Dusty!
Are there other such interviews about his other albums?
I love to find out the meaning of songs (the ones that are not obvious) that I love.

MK doesn't typically reveal what the songs are about because he wants people to draw their own conclusions (so he says). But sometimes he will give hints in interviews. For example, one time in an NPR interview he revealed that "Don't Crash The Ambulance" from Shangri-La is actually about the War in Iraq. The interviewer thought it was about his motorcycle accident. ::)
You can also check out SongMeanings.net, where people write in their thoughts about songs:

First of all WELCOME to this forum bboomer! I hope you will have such a great time as we all have! ;D
Hey Dan, I didn't see this link before thank you for sharing!
I have some interviews somewhere where Mark talks about his songs, but as Dan said he wants people to draw their own conclusions!
I will try to find the interviews (there are so many) and will give the link if possible! ::)

and postcards is about the whole finacial fraud thing, at concerts he often referred to the enron scandal before starting the sng.

How about a "song meaning" thread for each album, where we go through each album track by track and try to reach definitive conclusions about what each song is about, including links to MK interviews if they are available?

I didn't have time to read, but I found this link:
http://www.mark-knopfler.info/articles.htm
It shows the Press kits for the next albums:
Kill To Get Crimson (press kit)
Real Live Roadrunning (press release)
All The Roadrunning (media information)
Shangri-La (press kit)
Ragpicker's Dream (press kit)
Sailing To Philadelphia (press kit)
Golden Heart (press kit)
Enjoy reading! ;D

Thank you Fieneke for sharing the link to MK articles. Now I know I'm going to spend many many late nights catching up on all those articles. It's wonderful !!
I agreed that it's a good idea to have a seperate thread for interpreting Mark's songs.

Hey Sweetsurrender, I am glad to hear that you can use the link. ;)
I printed all the pages, so when I am on vacation I have my own MK/DS "book" and enjoy reading! Besides his voice singing the beautiful songs and his music , it's good to read about Mark when I am on vacation. There is sooo much information!! ;D

Pottel, Dan or one of the other guys, do you know if Stanislav Petrov & Dmitry Kumchenko are members of this forum too, but perhaps using other names? ::)
