I see listed below 27 songs played. I have a thread for songs played and I only count 26 now I added "Seeing in the Dark" as a song.
Can someone tell me what I missed? Pottel can you make that thread "songs played" sticky?

I noticed the same thing, Ingrid, and you are right - I think the mistake came from the fact that "I used to could" is listed as a new song whereas it has been here since Bucharest; it was only "new" compared to the previous show... so 26 is correct, altough I'm not quite sure whether this "seeing in the dark" intro should count as one full song or not !

It's quite the same as Father & Son (intro to a song), and we count that one as a song...

We are getting closer to the total of 30 songs that the band have prepared for this tour. Do you think that the list might get even longer? Not that I'm not happy, it is just so exciting not to know if there will be a new song, and I want that to continue after they have played the 30 songs Guy mentioned :) Can the band handle a new song in the setlist that hasn't been played during rehersals?

It's not MK-like to play a song they didn't rehearse, but we'll see what's coming next  ;)

They could easily play one that they did last year if they wanted.  That wouldn't require any rehearsal - just a bit practice in soundcheck.

One thing I have noticed though, is that the new songs sound so much better than they did last year;  more polished and far more energy.  Makes for a far better sound and I'll bet it seems even better actually at the concert because the audience feed of the energy from the stage (and vice-versa).

Yes!
If I'm not mistaken, in 2010 Guy mentioned that SFFTC had been rehearsed.
So why not ?
Among the rehearsed songs in 2008 were also: Setting me up (would be gorgeous), OES ('nuf said), The man's too strong (I would faint...) :)

Now what can we argue about!!
Hmm..loose leaf or bagged tea maybe?  ::)

Loose leaf unquestionably.  They sweep the stuff up from the floor for the bags you know.  They're just full of dust - no real flavour.
Its a shame that I agree..then nothing to argue about..any bagged tea enthusiasts who would like to create a discussion? :lol ;)

I am not drinking tea that much, so if I have to make it I prefer bags. I am lazy you see ;-)

It seems Sonny is not very popular in general. Have you all listened to the killer guitar solo from the Bucharest show? Really great!

I'm not too familiar with all the set lists from the North American Bob tour (somehow skipped that tour): Was Gator Blood played before or is it another "first" this evening - if GB is right and it IS Gator Blood?

Very nice set indeed.  With all these changes we can't complain that much.  I wonder though when he'll start to standardise and settle on a set he thinks works best - he usually does that.

Crows for IUTC though.

Now what can we argue about!!
Hmm..loose leaf or bagged tea maybe?  ::)

Loose leaf unquestionably.  They sweep the stuff up from the floor for the bags you know.  They're just full of dust - no real flavour.

dmg, is this true about loose leaf tea?  I'm a big tea drinker. I always believe that loose leaf is of higher standard? No? Guess I'll be lazy and just use tea bags from now.

This is an incredible tour to date !!!!!!!!!!  I don 't remember this kind of excitement about setlist.  Undoubtedly, the set tonight is the best.  Glad SOS is back.     Yessssssss !!!!!!! :thumbsup :clap

The SOS Outro is sweet. Looks like MK freshed up his skills and he and the band really enjoy the tour.
So lets hope that they keep the momentum until the end of the tour.

I don't mind this shirt.  It's soft & faded (been worn a lot) & works with the black tee.  Some of his shirts look too big and long (or stiff).  I thought he looked good in the blue shirt he wore the first night and it was tucked in.....so we could see his butt :)

yes, and probably the one used on the studio version (best tone for this song IMHO)

I remember back in 2000, before STP release, when reading some pre-reviews on the net, there was some rumors that the STP album will get a "LOG flavour", and indeed, when I first heard STP (the song) I immediately thought : "that's it, the tone I was waiting for years, since the LOG album : a little bit dark, not really clean, not really drived, just in between, etheral, aerian, THE tone"

I sometimes miss this kind of tone in concert

strange that he plays slide on a strat, I guess gator blood is the danelectro on the album

about Guy on harmonica, if he can play it, why does'nt he play it on IUTC ?

True! He plays really well now, and it's a joy! He hasn't played like this for ten years or so... What happend? Just like that? Longer solos, less, if any, misses, more precise and more energic playing. I am really impressed over what they have done for this tour. I didn't expect the songs to sound that good or for Mark to play that well, cause this has really changed! Now we are ready for Tunnel of Love, and I think Mark is too  :clap :clap

If you say so...  ::)

That deafening cat killing falsett intermezzo is the CORE of the song - it is so much Elmore James that it was the biggest surprise (positive) from any Mark Knopfler recording since... Calling Elvis. Or something like that... I think it fits perfectly well! I hope the Mark will work out his solo a little bit more...

Great setlist! This is definitely Mark's best tour.

yes, it seems...

why am I so unlucky ?

each time Mark plays a wonderful tour with lot of surprises in the setlist, I can't go see him. last time was for the KTGC tour, and now this tour....
and when I can go see him, like in 2005 or 2010...well it's ok, but not as nice as such videos I see every day from 1 week ago..

Mark has something against me ? :hmm :lol :lol :smack

you lucky guys, enjoy it :)

I love it!  Thanks for the videos.  I'll see you on youtube :).   I have a feeling that the Kingdom of Gold solo is going to evolve over time.

Here's my theory for why this tour is a cut above. Although seeing Mark and band in North America last fall was great for me, even as I sat at the concerts, I had concerns about how enjoyable it was for them. Inappropriate and undersold venues, late, late sound checks (when I walked into the Madison venue, the first thing I heard was KOG and, at first, I thought it was a recording but then realized that they were still sound checking just minutes before letting us in!) and, then of course, Bob's lack of camraderie as reported by Guy. All in all, it probably makes MK very grateful for what he has on tour this time around and it shows in his renewed enthusiasm.

Kingdom of Gold never did it to me. I don't like the album version very much and think the solo live on stage is just a nice try to enhance the song, but somehow it still doesn't work for me. (Whole other story with Yon Two Crows: Total other song live, he really builds up and gets angrier and angrier, starting with a deep humming voice, ending in a heavy guitar chaos so to say.) I would say YTC is really developing live, whereas KOG is somehow just a try to get something more out of it. But maybe I don't understand the song at all.

Talking about repititon: I know BEFORE GAS & TV is not liked very much in general among AMITERS, and that one is definitely repetitive, but is a MASTERPIECE compared to KOG, alone the lyrics are a whole other dimension of greatness.

If there is one wish that I could have (ok, two) for this tour: BEFORE GAS & TV and SO FAR FROM THE CLYDE. Now that we have  5.15 am, Gator Blood, and some others, I am perfectly happy, almost.

I love the song
on studio version, I love the dramatic atmoshpere brought by background vocals
live, I find the solo very tasteful

YES!!!! you're the only one !! (just kidding)   ;D  ;D ;D ;D ;D  I think it's beautiful . Although it might sound like it's leading nowhere, and somehow abruptly ended, it does have that melancholic feel to it, which makes it sound quite sensational to hear. Just my opinion. :)

For us fans who appreciate many many of Mark's songs, there are some songs that won't do well performing live.  And I think Before Gas & TV is one of them.  It's a beautiful song, but just not upbeat enough.  On the other hand, So Far from the Clyde will be a nice song to hear live.  I still hope he would play Bluebird and GO Love.  I love them both very much !!!! :)

Yes, I agree with you. You can clearly see that Mark is very happy to be doing this. And that's what really matters because it makes the shows a truly wonderful thing to experience.

it's because it's played on the pensa !  ;D ;D ;D ;D

TR has to be played on the sunburst schecter strat, or on the red strat like in lyon 2005 (many AMITers claim it's one of best versions)

kidding of course, but I've never liked the pensa guitars

I must admit though, that some fantastic versions were played on pensa (e.g. 23/05/1996 RAH, or final solo in Basel 92)

TR in Turino was quite a disaster on the final solo. I know I was standing at the barrier just in front of Mark's amp. And same for BIA. But excellent SOS. Milano the day after was much better.

Hi Herlock!    Yes, Istanbul was very good and certainly fast, but it didn't have nearly the beautiful phrasing (I don't know the word to describe it) as the ones I heard at, particularly, Manchester and Bournemouth in 2010.  Fast is not always best - there are other factors to consider, but Istanbul is probably the best of this tour - so far!   :)

Hey Superval,
I agree with you, faster does not always mean better: the OES versions in 91/92 were the fastest ever, yet I don't find them to be the best ever at all: certainly very technically impressive, but feel too "rushed", too much pedal steel and saxophone, but no intro, and not enough emotion compared to say, Alchemy, the reference version.
To me the best versions ever were in 1996/2001/2005 - the best compromise between energy and passion...
Still, I was sooo pleasantly surprised this year with the renewed energy. Listening to Istanbul end solo I almost feel to be back in 2005 after the slowdown of 2008/2010 ! Still, after listening again to Lyon 2005 (another reference version), I realize that we are not (yet ?) at 2005 standards...
And this "karaoke mode" after "rolling rover" that Mark has been indulging into since 2008 is simply unbearable !
Compared to 2010 another bothers me this year, the end solo is faster but shorther. And the increase in pace cannot alone explain the difference in time (nearly a minute). Some verses must have been shortened...
Oh well. Still hope to have a DVD/Blu-Ray this year, to have at least an alternate version of TR on video, other than Alchemy which is great but too much heard. And to get at last WII, HFB, Marbetown, Crows (I really hope !), Piper (same !) of video will be a real long-awaited treat.

it's already in the Milan thread, great final solo

Something went wrong, a glitch at 4'00, and all the final solo is only played on the "treeble" chords, and he does not play the usual little thing.
And what is he saying at 8:35 about "yeah pitch in my guitar..."?

nothing went wrong at 4:00,
he played a note which is out of tune intentionally,
he does this sometimes, it's not an error
(Solid Rock from Knebworth90 is another example)

the video posted in this thread (super zoomed in that moment) clearly shows that he does it intentionally
but there was no need for that

any decent guitarist who knows all the scales he plays can confirm you this

Listen to Turin version @ 5'40'' and you will find that this famous part usually getting cheers from the audience is not played in Milan the day after. To my memory, in 20 years and nearly 50 gigs attended I have never witnessed SOS performed without it.

The usual bit @ 5'40'' is missing in Milan...

and then ?

he did it intentionally, the following part is pretty strange too

Because he had some problem with one or more string that he couldn't play it and had to change the solo. I noticed while performing the solo, always playing the more treeble strings (G/B/E) but not on the bass sounding ones (E/A/D).
That sort of problem already happened once in 2010 on BR.
