Kingdom of Gold will be played tonight. It is just a feeling........ :lol
Well there's no reason why any of the songs from last years set can't be played really - it was only few months ago and it's the same band.
-
It is really one of my favorites from the new album along with the submariner... Hope to hear them live but indeed they have played those songs also last year.....
-
Seattle - that is just fantastic! :)
-
Yesss !! Seattle is my favorite song of the album .... great to have a live version of that one ... hope to hear it in Zwolle too !
-

I hope he sings it with Ruth in Amsterdam or the RAH! That would be great! :)

Yes. One of the better songs from the album and a better choice for live versions IMO than most of those chosen last year e.g. IUTC, HA... ::)

As Zwolle was added later on, Ruth won't be in Zwolle, correct ? Wish I had bought a ticket for Amsterdam, but sadly couldn't afford it and when I could it was sold out already.
-
4 Privateering songs in a row! Cool. Never had that from any new album as far as I remember.... ?

Very nice set indeed. No BIA which is good and great to finish with Piper.
Can I complain about Marbletown and there being only two encores? No, I won't because I'm very happy with this. :D

Thank-you! I sincerely hope that you are happy too. :thumbsup

I would go for this set list anytime. Apart from Boney. But that one works well live, so I have to heard it before I ban it! The rest: GREAT! Last time I was really LISTENING to Brothers live at concert must have been 2008 or so. And even then I was more staring at his boots and the LP then listening to the song. I think it has to stay now where Walk Of Life, Solid Rock, Calling Elvis and the others are staying...

hey ingrid, tell jeroen i will take over from you tomorrow.

Nice to see that many of the members here like the set played in Sofia tonight :)
I'm maybe not so happy about it like nearly all of you. Here is a few comments.
Yon Two Crows is back, lovely news :thumbsup
Used To Could out, a skipper for me on the record :thumbsup
Piper To The End as a closer, perfect :thumbsup
Sonny Liston not played, Thank youuuuuuuuuuuu :thumbsup
Seattle, not one of my faves on the record :thumbsdown
Postcards From Paraguay out tonight, very sad I think :thumbsdown
Done With Bonaparte, A little bit tired of that song :thumbsdown
Brothers In Arms not played in Sofia, I still hope it's a joke ! :thumbsdown
It's my dream to hear Are We In Trouble Now played live, in my opinion one of the best songs made by Mark. :clap
-
22 songs played so far. According Guy they have rehearsed more than 30 and they are planning to play them all....
What other songs would Mk have for us this tour?
I will name 10 who i believe are possible, Number 11 and 12 is with Nigel in the UK.........
1. kingdom of Gold
2. Submariner

4. Border Reiver

Yes, the Mandela version of BIA is ... so far away from the versions he made recently, that I prefer it to be dropped for something fresher.
Piper, for example, has the same meaning, and more energy in last tour!
-
See the list I created in another thread, I used to could has already been played :P

Agree 200%
And here we go: every overperformed track would be missed and moaned about by some of us.
But yes, it's a great set!!
Generally, I could do without Baloney, Sonny, Donegan, Bonaparte, MfN, Gator Blood, CBC, BLT, SR...
I wish there were more like Seattle, Piper, Dream of the DS, SfftC, Trawlerman's, BtT, AWiTn etc.

Hi folks...just back home...will write a long review tomorrow
GREAT concert! Excellent atmosphere, the Band in a fresh good mood
Have on my phone video of Haul Away and Marbletown (11 min or so...) and poor pics from the first row... ;D :smack
The lights were not good for photos on my place
Jeroen made some better photos..
Tomorrow will put everything

Great concert from Mark and the band. Sold out hall, beautiful lights and clear sound. Second part of "Speedway at Nazareth" is incredible live! Must say it was one of the best moments in the concert.
All in all - excellent evening. Thank you, Mark.

Piper:

Wow. In 2010 I loved Piper but felt it was somehow inferior to the studio version - less guitar soloing at the end, a bit of a "karaoke mode". Here I find it on par with the studio version, if not better !
Excellent news to have it back ! Mark, give us back Border (and Kog, but I'm not worried for Kog, I know it will surface) and then almost all my expectations for the songs played in the tour (if not in a single concert) will be fufilled ! :)
-
Do we know if Mark introduced the band ? ???
It's really such an important moment.
That's weird to do even worse than Bob. :disbelief
Maybe the plan was to play TOL with the extended intro, ghost riders and band introduction. ::) :lol
That makes sense.
And last minute on stage he just didn't do it. Too bad, we were so close ;) For sure next time. :smack

Perhaps touring with Bob, the fact they haven't been top bill and they haven't been playing the hits like Sultans etc. has rejuvenated them.
Comparing Marks performances between last year and this is like chalk and cheese. Last year seemed ill-conceived and without any practice with Mark starting the tour in a manner that, frankly scared me for his future. Now he's better that he's been in many years. Something different has been done for this tour that's for sure. Whatever, good for you Mark and keep it up! :thumbsup

Perhaps touring with Bob, the fact they haven't been top bill and they haven't been playing the hits like Sultans etc. has rejuvenated them. Also, Ian Thomas' drumming keeps a faster beat and I like Coxy too - both keeping Mark's game up.
Playing like this, he could manage Sultans with break in the UK when Hitch joins...
I doubt it.
If Hitch plays sultans with them will be adding notes to what they are already playing, I doubt very much they do the break, unless they specifically rehearse it for the UK shows, and knowing MK as we do, thats unlikely.

This tour definitely sees the best version of Sultans in many years, I hope he keeps up this amazing energy througout the tour!!

There are some better video's now on YouTube. Just search "Mark Knopfler Sofia."

Here it is:
Question: Hi Guy! From reports we have heard from the recent shows, Mark hasn't been introducing the band to the audience. That is one of the things I have always loved - MK speaking to us, it is very special. Also, many people in the audience are maybe not as well-acquainted with the band members as more frequent concert-goers. BTW I'm loving the songs I have heard so far and looking forward very much to my concerts. All the best! Val
Guy: Ironically, he did last night

Yes, I didn't need any back-up! ;) Maybe he will continue now! :)

I bet having an audience full of MK fans rather than BD fans makes a difference in their energy level, too.

Yes, that too. Also they aren't playing to half-full halls. That can't give you much enthusiasm.
I wonder if Mark has gained any concert goers from Bob fans that saw him from the 2011 European tour?

Do we know if Mark introduced the band ? ???
Yes, he did. It was after first 3 or 4 songs. It was short introducing - just names and what instruments they are playing. Last one was Guy Fletcher and Mark said something like: "This is Guy Fletcher, but you know him!" ;D

If I had some sort of brainstorm and wanted to see Mr Bob again, I would have to go alone, because my other half would have to be dragged kicking and screaming through the streets! Would I want to see him again - err definitely NO! I still listen to his albums though! :)

Hi there, first post!
I honestly doubt that either Border Reiver or Why Aye Man are going to be played since Guy has always played a Telecaster in this songs and he has no electric guitar with him on this tour, as he wrote in his forum on the 25th of April.

Hi there, friends! Here I am... ;D
Sorry that I am late here but I had to work after a sleepless night and still very tired. :smack
The concert here in Sofia was really fantastic! I read all positive and exciting reviews by Bulgarian audience...
As far I am not "wish-set-list-person" I am happy whatever he plays. But he was very kind to play my 2 fav from last album - Seattle and Haul Away ( I love other songs too!!) but these 2 are special! I cant believe I didnt record Seattle...Dont know where was my mind at the moment. ;D ;D ;D
Mark and the band went on the stage in time after the old and well known music introduction.
They all looked happy and relaxed. Our audience ( kinda Italian, but not that hot as Spanish) met Mark on their feet, screaming and cheering him - he was not surprised to see that. Just smiling ( sexy!!...arrggghh) :smack
Ladies, Mark was handsome, wearing dark blue shirt and lighter blue jeanse!!! :P
From the beginning it was a very strong and powerful performance. Ian is different drummer, I dont like comparisons, so he was very good for me! Mike with the pipe was infront of me, smiling most of the time.
(Forgot to say - I was in the 1st row with my friend Milena and my 83 years old MOM - she was also in London previous time) ;D
Marbletown was longer imho - with a great duet by Glen and John on the fiddle ( kinda fingerspicking fiddle - do not know the right term here). Speedway At Nazareth and TR totally blowed the audience up...
It was a big suprise he didint play BIA during encors...
He played So Far Away instead - singing the name of our town - Here I am again in Sofia town - and people were very happy to hear it. Piper To The End was sooo beautiful!!!
A lady put near his feet a bunch of flowers ( it is very common here) and he sayd Thank you and collected it at the end. On his way out of the stage he came to us and shook our hands again as he did in 2008 in Sofia too.
So Im not going to wash mine for some months! :P :P :P
The only bad thing was the concert finished too fast for me...didnt notice the time. :smack
Me and my friend had tears in the eyes most of the time - she loves his Scotish songs as me.
Im not upset by singing Done with... again with the same old Band introduction and same joke - You and me Richard...the others - good luck ;D as far it is my Moms fav song and she was dancing on her seat listening it - I was happy about her!
Im still very excited, happy, love Mark and the band!
Feel a little bit upset because Im not going to London this time and all is finished for me...
Im also upset I wont see most of you there but these are things for the moment.
Will put my 2 videos later ( Haul Away and Marbletown)
Had nice time and chat and spend some time with Isaac and Jeroen!
Love
Slavi

Thank you, Slavi, for that lovely review! I'm so glad that you enjoyed the show and how wonderful that Mark shook your hand - I hope that will happen to me! ;) I'm sorry you won't be at the RAH, because I was hoping to meet you there - maybe the next time? :wave

Exactly what Val said (except the shake hands thing - not bothered about that ::)). :thumbsup

Oh, he shook hands? Why did he not do it to us? :smack I was also in first row. :D
I guess he's making that city thing for SFA in every city he's throwing concert.

Slavi,
Must have been a memorable night for you. :) The hand shake, I got mine also in 2010 at the end of PPTTE. As far as I know Mark doesn't do a hand shake that often after the show. Glad to know I'm not the only crazy fan that cry at every Mark's concert. :)
Hope you will cope well with the post MK blues. :'( ( That's what I hate !)

Oh my gosh!!! I totally forgot about the post-Mark blues. :( :-\ :'( :smack
Geez... I better get to a doctor and gt something ordered before my July concerts are over!!! :think

This introduction is indeed funny - starting with Jim, "...if there is anybody" when the lights stayed out... and his BIG GRIN before saying "Good Luck" shows absolutely that he is aware of the endless repeat of this and that he really makes it for fun. Also shorter and better, just shouting the names. I like it.

Listening to this concert right now and up until now (Bonaparte) it's really a great listen. Like I said in another topic I find the sound/mix/ballance of these 2013 recordings MUCH better than the Simfy 2010 ones. (don't think I have ever heard Mark playing the accoustic guitar this clear and upfront before ~ referencing to 'Privateering') The sound on these Youtube vids (as great as they are :clap) doesn't do any justice at all to MK's performance. Just listened to a fantastic Sultans .. man .. the people who were there that night have been lucky .. what an energy on this song this tour (and great playing from Mark too, didn't notice a big mistakes).
