Ride Across the River
You and Your Friend

Good choices. I would also add:
Down to the Waterline
Setting me up
Lions (Dormund'80 is awesome !)
News (same ! How a little unassuming song can be turned in a live masterpiece)
Once Upon a Time in the West
Where do you think you're going
Portobello Belle
The Man's Too Strong
Planet of New Orleans
Rudiger
Golden Heart
Imelda
Silvertown Blues
Junkie Doll
A place we used to live
Boom, Like That
Postcards from Paraguay
Punish the Monkey

I think Ride Across the River is a good shout.  Most people (even the "tourists") will have the BIA album so they will be familiar with the song.  Mark could easily still play it and could drop something like the overplayed BIA.

PoNO is another I love live too.  I know that would be popular around here.

Skateaway
Y&YF
Junkie Doll
Silvertown
and of course the one and only...  Pointless even mentioning it. :'(

BIA may well be one of his top five for many people, but not me and I've heard it far too many times now.  The best versions were on the BIA tour IMO anyway so it's been all downhill since (except perhaps the Mandela version).

Yes, the great ToL.

Ooohhh I still LOVE BIA! I think it is even better sung live  now then at the BIA album, because his voice is more mature! (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v510/Fieneke2/Emoticons/Blowingkiss.gif)

I can mention a LOT of songs that could be played live, BUT...........if Mark would sing "The Long Highway" and "I am the Fool" live, then I will enter the stage and reward him with a big kiss and hug! (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v510/Fieneke2/Emoticons/Grinsmiley.gif)

The big kiss will be at his cheek of course, after all we both are married! (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v510/Fieneke2/Emoticons/Grinning.gif)

I agree with you, '85 versions were the best, especially for the rocking ending, which was dropped already in the same tour in '86 !!
Mandela is great too. This been said, the official "on the night" one is really nice and breathtaking. A fine choice for an official release (unlike MFN which was much better on the bia tour and in music for Montserrat)

Keeping in mind the present band line-up and musical tendencies..this is the list I came up with from both the DS and MK catalogs that would fit well:
DS:
Iron Hand
Ride across the River
Water of love
Portobello Belle
On Every Street
MK:
Je Suis Desole
Golden Heart
Punish the monkey
Junkie Doll
So far from the Clyde (never played live before...and should be)
Camerado (would make a great opener!)

Punish the monkey.... in my opinion a perfect opener...

There are a lot, but 2 that come to mind straight away would be, Silvertown Blues and I would like them to give a serious crack at On Every Street.

I can't understand why he has an apparent dislike or uninterest in Silvertown, when most fans think highly of it. It's a good song.

I think I'll go and tell Guy to inform MK to get his finger out  and put those two in the setlist for the new tour and fling DWB to eff  :thumbsup

I think he sounds terrible on BIA now;  so tired, weary and no effort at all.

Yes, it had the CITTERN in it!   The album version WAS boring, but live I liked it very much!    :)

BTW  Coyote was one of the highlights of the 2010 tour for me.  It was also much better than the album version!

So if we dream about Your latest trick, he will play El Macho...

There is nothing anyone can do to make True Love anything more than dull, boring and soppy.

I think Prairie Wedding is a really good song with a beautiful guitar solo on it

Actually I think that he might stop playing some of his old DS songs... And I think it might be TR.

Why? He wanted it out of the Madrid 2010 digital download, and it was ok, played as always, the boring version with citterns instead the elecric guitar, so I guess he may consider stop playing it, and instead play, lets say... Redbud tree, a classic  ;D

Being almost realistic, Setting me up, with the fiddle and the flute to play with MK

It's very enjoyable because it's a great song (like many GH songs) and he doesn't sing too much french. Only the chorus.
French/ English parts are well balanced.

In 2008, much "new "songs he played on stage were from 2002.

MK solo songs. Most of the past songs that people posted here were old DS ones...

There are no DS songs. They are all MK songs. Only that some used to be performed by DS. If Mark never look back why he still play a bunch of songs from the DS era... Over the years, mostly always the same ones

By the way SFA was dropped after DS disbanded but Mark suddenly remembered it quite late into the 2001 tour.
And in 2002 Your Latest Trick was back for two night, in 2006 Why Worry was back for a whole tour...

why don't we make an official poll of requested songs never played in any MK tour
and then we tell Guy the winning song or the best 3 (and they choose 1 of the 3)

it would be stupid for them to ignore a worldwide poll

:wave I'd love to tackle this.  While far from being an expert on what has been performed live, I have been tracking songs in this thread and a similar thread ("Songs never played live"), and will compile a quick list of DS and MK songs for all to vote on.

So folks...  if you haven't already listed your favorite song that hasn't been played live (or was played live, and has long been "forgotten")  :think, please list them here, and I will get something out by this weekend.

Peter Gabriel uses to set up a poll where the fans vote for songs and he usually choose some songs of that poll, actually there was a tour called "Warm up tour" where the firsts shows were very unusual as Gabriel decided to play just the rare songs that the people voted.

He said that was exhausting, because he didnt play that songs from decades and in the end he had to change some of that songs for the popular ones. The result was great, a show mixing rare songs and famous songs. Thats an artist that listen to his fans.

MK was once close to listen to his fans, and it was in 2001, in Brasil people spent all the shows shoting "So far away, so far away" and he started to play it. People was asking Guy to play Silvertown and Portobello Belle, and they rehearsed that songs in various soundchecks (there is one recording of them rehearsing both songs) but MK decided that it was time to stop listening the fans and play what he wanted to play, not what the people wanted, why? MK says that if he

I always thought there was a misunderstanding here.  The arena was so large that the stage was so far from the fans they were shouting out "you're so far away, so far away!"  Guy just didn't hear them properly due to the in-ear pieces they have. ::)

On the StP tour he said to the audience regularly something like:  we do take requests.  Just shout them out and I'll write them all down.  He also said:  one night someone shouted "play everything" - so we did! ;D

mmm...its like when he said on OES and GH tours during walk of life : "if you want we play all night, we'll play all night" (or something like that) but we all know it's not the case (although GH concerts were a bit longer)

Yeah, it's all just patter really.

:disbelief ::)  Why is LH so popular among fans?  Beggars belief!!! :hmm

It's an inoffensive enough song and not terrible (by modern music standards), but it's a b-side at the very best and I just don't get why so many fans think it's so great when it has very simple lyrics, no great guitar and a general lack of inspiration about it.  It's just got nothing going for it as far as I can see and yet so many fans love it - not just like it, but consider it a favourite!  I find it totally baffling.  Please help me out here.

You can vote on the poll, and if there are enough votes maybe we can send it to Guy and if lucky, maybe they would consider one or two...

They start rehearsing in a month, so go and vote

I might be splitting hairs, but is there a chance of getting something ONTO the setlist??

yes but requests from a single person and from a worldwide poll are 2 completely different things

Imagine if the whole RAH starts to sing Portobello Belle loud and clear. How Mark would react to this?
Just a dream.

In early DS shows, they used to play Nadine. What other other's songs did they play? Anyone knows?

I know these aren't covers but they played these in the early days:

Me and My Friends
Real Girl

I really like Real Girl.  Would have made a great b-side or maybe even album release.

Then they did lots of covers during The Billies days.

Oh, I love both songs. From time to time I use to write this, but an album with all these rarities would be soooooo pleasant.
