Thanks xxFordiexx! I'll keep my fingers crossed! :)
-
It'd be nice to have him win this. My fingers are crossed too.

And don't get your hopes up - Robbie has done fairly well in the past, as shown here:-

Yep indeed but MK is very popular over there as we know......
I'd be more inclined to worry about Springsteen, he's the cool kid apparently lol
-
Thank you for posting this link Fordie!
I also think that Bruce Springsteen has a good change! :hmm.......But of course I keep my fingers crossed as well and hope that Mark will win! ;D

Wow, that's going to be a difficult one.... why don't they just go and quickly set up a boy group together? ;D
-
Yeah I always get the feeling that Springsteen can do no wrong, don't get me wrong, I think he's great but I honestly don't think his output is as good as Knopflers :)

don't get me wrong too, I far prefer Mark to Bruce, but I think that Bruce had bigger "impact" in rock history than Mark...

I have been to many, many more MK concerts than I have Springsteen concerts but I would also suggest that, in the wider world and in the longer term, Springsteen will be the one judged to have made the greater impact.
Though of a very similar age, Springsteen has had the longer career in the music business. Mark's initial success came with Dire Straits, a name that is possibly more prominent in the public conciousness than his own name; Springsteen has been through several "career iterations", as it were, but the Springsteen name has always been to the fore. I could go on.
It is neither here nor there what you or I think of the relative merits, qualities, skills and/or abilities of the two of them. An objective outsider, IMHO, would judge Springsteen's impact to have been, and to be, the greater.

Have I missed something or is not this award for the last year rather than a lifetime achievement. So it could be anyones surely. Apart from Robbie Williams.

:clap
That was my impression too.

If it is the case, yes
Otherwise, I 100% agree with twm

I was commenting more on the question of "overall impact on the world at large" than the Echo award. I should have included the word "also" in my first sentence and have now modified it accordingly.
I have gained much more enjoyment from MK than BS over the years, but, as I said, my response to their music is neither here nor there.
In respect of Springsteen, I have attended only two shows (one on the solo Tom Joad" tour and one on the "Seeger Sessions" tour - and I enjoyed the latter more) and have only gone out of my way to obtain one Springsteen album on CD (namely "Nebraska"). I guess that's fairly consistent in terms of my general musical tastes, though I also quite liked "The Wild, the Innocent and the E-Street Shuffle"
-
Oh no, I really do not want to choose...... LOL!
I love Mark and Bruce, each for different reasons. This is a tough choice.....
Lol! At least for me it would be.

Easy choice for me. Markkkkkkkkkkkkk !! :)

The best reward is figure sales and full house when performing live.

You sound like his manager! As far as MK is concerned I'm sure it would be a hearty enjoyment from doing the job he loves doing. That and his health are far more important than money. :)

You mean Croks ?
Nice compliment. ;)

I don't talk especially about money, I talk about people enjoying his records and going to his concerts. I don't know artist being delighted by performing for half empty theatre or make record that nobody listen to :think
And if I had choice I would opt for being Ed ;D

They do not need any kind of award to prove their value. Let Robbie have it. He must have something to show to his grandchildren, to prove he was in the music business. ;) Apart from joking, he must be one of the very few (relatively) young artists, that has a steady career over the last 20 years. Even if we are not part of his audience!
And anyway, who needs awards? They don't look good in the bookcase and they gather dust much too easy.

You're probably right - although not about Robbie. :disbelief I always have said that awards are just a popularity contest.

Hi,
Mark will be in Germany and I have to attend a training course of my office :-( , so I can`t go to Berlin.
The Echo is given to the artist with the best-selling album, so I don`t belive that this is really important for Mark. It`s about the number of sales, not bad for him, but only "kingdom of gold"... I think, performing in front of an enthusiastic audience is more important for him.
sorry, this is only in German:

I don`t know how they rate the sales, but media control says that Mark is no.15 and Robbie no. 16 in 2012, Mark is the leading international male artist in this list :D !

I have a lot of respect for Robbie...although I do think Do America could have been written for him. Candy is a brilliant song.

These awards take place tonight.

What channel is it on, Pottel?

the public german channel 1 ("ARD") comparable with BBC1

Getting closer to the main category, our man's,...

the act right now is funny in that the guy always wears a panda mask, and now he sent about 12 guys on stage all wearing the same clothing and the same panda mask, all jumping around and "singing" so yo fo not really know who the real singer is.

5 minutes was a bit of an exaggeration - more like 2 mins! ;)
