Very Difficult indeed , so i go for a solo Mark performed during Badge at a gig with Eric Clapton in Surrey February 7, 1988 . totally mind blowing imho!!!

"Are we in Trouble now" from A Night in in London 1996 - brings always to tears to my eyes
"Brothers in Arms" from Monserrat concert 1996
"Feel like going home" with Tom Jones

Yep, these ones. I guess it has to do with that particular era and the power of the Les Paul. Maybe I would add "Layla" from the Montserrat concert as well.

I don't know this one in particular, but I don't like very much his solo on Badge on 88 tour, I prefer EC's one, because Marks keeps in D minor pentatonic scale which doesn't fit to the song imho,.
Eric is more in D7 scale (or G major scale) which fits more with the chords progression.

but of course just a matter of taste  :)

yes I love this song. it gives hapinnes imho, and the 2nd solo is wonderful.
the werchter 81 version brings me to tears, don't know why, but I love the way he introduces the band during this solo

I've forgotten mentioning the Solo from "Once upon a time in the west" from Alchemy 1983. Is there anyone who likes it too?
In any case for me it's a more interesting Solo than Sultans.

How I love those posts where we finally end up listing all solo's MK ever recorded :)
Anyways, besides Redbud Tree, the final solo of Sultans is ofcourse breathtaking, especially the twiddly bits. Nobody's got the gun has also got a very nice solo, though the songs itself is a bit boring. The solo guitar has got a good MK sound on it. Same goes for Golden Heart, the first solo is really beautiful. For more recent work, the solo of Basil after "he goes out into the dark" perfectly captures those words, the first notes a very well chosen. The low notes start on Camerado is very good too...

Although i have the feeling EC is not playing a D-mixolydian scale during his solo at all ( not present in the sample) but for me it seems EC plays an A-min.blues scale and Mark a regular A-minor (aeolian) scale (both with a lot of fills).
you can hear Mark playing a little D7 arpeggio (offcourse over de D(7) ) chord and tricks it with bending the F# to a G note to continue with the A minor scale. And at other moments he seems to bend the E-note a whole to F# let it ring and it up a half note up to G without releasing the E note.

I give you the credits for the other 1988 shows... but during this particular gig he nailed it and a bit kicks EC''s ass  :o

But heeee indeed its all theory ( i am sorry) , a good guitarist can let me cry with one touching note and a really really, good guitarist by knowing when not to play a note........the latter are hard to find.

I rather like the ones from Hamilton and Minneapolis 1988.

Yes, in 2006 I was much more on Richard beautiful playing on that one than Marks own soloing. So in 2013 what a disaster to me to hear Richard's part dropped...

also big credits from Richard.

as Mark said "this tour is for him", and indeed Richard took the limelight on many songs on this tour

railroad blues, with Brendan Croker, 1989.06.18, leeds
those train sounds to start with
then that bahamas sound
then DAT guitar sound...

any Knopfler, Floyd or Dylan will do....

A little reminiscent of His Latest Flame outro, as played by the Hillbillies.

Love the soloing on "Don't You Get It" from the "Golden Heart" album. Hard to narrow it down to just one, though.
